Four Indicted, Charged With Perjury In Murder Investigation
An Essex County Grand Jury returned indictments today against four people, charging that they lied during a Grand Jury murder investigation. The victim of the homicide was Rafael Gomez, 19, of Lawrence, who was shot to death on August 5, 2006, at the corner of Short and Oak Streets.
The Grand Jury returned indictments for perjury against Mindy Thai, 18, of 75 Lexington Street, Lawrence; Carlos Rivera, 24, of Lawrence and Springfield; Yashira Nunez, 20, of 31 Basswood St., Lawrence; and Ricard Gonzalez, 19, of 9 Tower St., Methuen.
All except for Gonzalez are also charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder.
Charged with the murder are David Polanco, 21, of Lawrence, and Alexis Chavez, 19, of Methuen. They are currently out on bail, and are scheduled to be in Lawrence District Court next Friday for a probable cause hearing.
The maximum penalty for perjury is 20 years in state prison. The maximum sentence for accessory after the fact to murder is seven years in state prison.
