Lawrence Man Arraigned For Murder

Rudy Cruz, 18, of 239 Farnham Street, Lawrence, pleaded not guilty this morning in Lawrence District Court to murder in the shooting death of Daniel Bautista.

Bautista, 18, also of Lawrence, was shot at the corner of Farnham and Phillips Streets in Lawrence at about 7 p.m. Tuesday night. He was pronounced dead at Lawrence General Hospital a short time later.

Cruz was arrested at his mother's house on Farnham Street in Lawrence at about 2 o'clock this morning by Lawrence Police and State Police assigned to the Office of Essex District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett.

Judge Mark Sullivan ordered Cruz held without bail, and continued his case until December 4 for a probable cause hearing. The judge also revoked the defendant's bail on a pending case in which he is charged with possession of a Class B substance, Ecstasy, and being a minor in possession of alcohol

Cruz is represented by Attorney Ronald Ranta. The Commonwealth was represented at arraignment by Essex Assistant District Attorney Ronald DeRosa.
