Initial reports from witnesses indicate that Mr. Echavarria forced Ms. Robles into the elevator at her place of employment at 150 Market Street in Lynn where he took their lives. Witnesses reported they heard an explosion shortly thereafter.
Pending the completion of all forensic testing, it appears that Mr. Echavarria used gasoline to ignite the fire in the elevator. Among the items found at the scene were a two-gallon gasoline container, a lighter, and a knife. The evidence is to be examined by the State Fire Marshall's Office and the State Police Crime Laboratory. The exact causes of death will be determined after autopsies have been completed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
