Man Dies In Lake Attitash In Merrimac

Foul play is not suspected at this time in the death of a man found floating in Lake Attitash in Merrimac early this afternoon.

Martin Bajdek, 35, of 13 Shore Road, Merrimac, was trying to take his dock out for the winter. His stepfather discovered him floating in the water when he went to the dock to borrow a tool from the victim.

Two women cleaning an apartment nearby heard the stepfather's screams for help, and at 1:49 p.m. called 911. They then ran to the dock to help pull the victim out, and one of the women performed CPR until paramedics arrived on scene.

Merrimac Police and Fire responded to the call, and the victim was transported by ambulance to Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport. He was pronounced dead at 3:30 p.m. An autopsy will be conducted tomorrow at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston to determine the exact cause of death.

The matter is under investigation by Sgt. Eric Shears and Officer Daniel Ross of the Merrimac Police Department, along with Massachusetts State Police Trooper Brian O'Neill, who is assigned to the Office of Essex District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett.
