D.A. Blodgett Presents Three New Programs

Essex District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett will present three new programs directed towards middle school students, high school students and parents, in his continuing efforts to combat underage drinking.

The programs will be unveiled at District Attorney Blodgett's yearly "Policymakers' Breakfast," which will take place on Monday, October 20, from8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. , at the Peabody Marriott, located at Centennial Park .

"This is an important issue which needs constant reinforcement," said District Attorney Blodgett. "Both the public safety and the health of our children demand that we be relentless and innovative in attacking this serious problem."

The three presentations cover the legal, social and physical consequences of underage drinking. For students, the video and slides outline ways to resist the peer pressure, and also focus on the effects alcohol has on the adolescent brain, victimization, alcohol poisoning, as well as drinking and driving.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. H. Westley Clark, Director of the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Also speaking at the breakfast will be Congressman John Tierney and Secretary of Public Safety and Security Kevin Burke.
