Rockport Man Pleads Guilty To Second Degree Murder

John MacKenzie, 47, of Rockport, pleaded guilty today to second degree murder for the suffocation death of Wendy Cox, 35, of Gloucester. Lawrence Superior Court Judge Richard Welch sentenced MacKenzie to the mandatory term of life in state prison.

MacKenzie, who had a dating relationship with Cox, murdered the victim at his Rockport home on September 25, 2005, the night before he was scheduled to go to trial in Gloucester District Court for domestic assault and battery on the same victim.

The Commonwealth was represented by Essex Assistant District Attorney Jean M. Curran. MacKenzie was represented by Attorney Denise Regan. He will be eligible for parole in 15 years.
