Lawrence Man Sentenced For Child Rape

Salem Superior Court Judge David Lowy sentenced Joseph Tingle, 30, of Lawrence, to 12-15 years in state prison today for two counts of rape of a child.

Tingle was tried last Tuesday, November 3, in Salem Superior Court. After closings and charge on Wednesday morning, the jury deliberated for almost three full days before returning its verdicts late Friday afternoon.

Essex Assistant District Attorney Jean M. Curran proved that Tingle raped a young girl in Lawrence on two different dates sometime during the time frame between 1998 and 1999. The victim, now 18, took the stand during the trial.

Tingle was represented by Attorney John Apruzzese of Lawrence.

Prosecutor Curran lauded the investigation conducted by the Lawrence Police Department, and praised the work of Victim/Witness Advocate Gayle Beaudoin, who assisted the victim through the court process and trial.
