Lynn Police Officer Indicted On Two Charges

An Essex County Grand Jury today indicted Lynn Police Officer Geovanni Ruano, 45, of Lynn, on one count of assault and battery, and one count of intimidation of a witness.

The alleged assault took place sometime between 10:30 and 11:00 p.m. on Atlantic Terrace and Ocean Avenue in Lynn on July 31, 2010.

The offense of intimidation of a witness allegedly took place the next day. Ruano was off-duty at the time of the alleged offenses. The victim is an adult male.

The Grand Jury also indicted Ruano's girlfriend, Catherine Foley, 32, of Lynn, on two counts of intimidation of a witness. Those offenses allegedly took place on August 1 and August 9, 2010.

Both defendants will be summoned for arraignment in Salem Superior Court on a date to be determined, when additional details of the alleged offenses will be released.

The cases will be prosecuted by Essex Assistant District Attorney Maureen Wilson Leal.

Ruano, a 13-year veteran of the department, is currently on paid administrative leave.
