New Jersey Man Pleads Not Guilty To Murder

Darkens Bonnett, 19, of Newark, NJ, who has also been living in Lynn, pleaded not guilty today in Lynn District Court to the November 22, 2009, murder of Vincent Gaskins, 30, of Lynn.

Bonnett allegedly shot Gaskins in a strip mall parking lot on Market Street in Lynn at about 1:18 a.m. Gaskins was taken to Salem Hospital, and was later transferred to Boston Medical Center, where he died two days later.

Judge Albert Conlon ordered Bonnett held without bail, and continued his case until June 25 for a probable cause hearing.

Essex Assistant District Attorney James Gubitose has been assigned to prosecute the case. Bonnett is represented by Attorney Michael Phelan

The investigation is being conducted by Lynn Police and State Police detectives assigned to the Office of Essex District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett.
