North Andover Couple Pleads Not Guilty In Underage Drinking Case

Ronald Smits, 49, and his wife Susan Smits, 49, both of 65 Blue Ridge Road, North Andover, pleaded not guilty today in Lawrence District Court to keeping a noisy and disorderly house, and furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Judge Thomas Brennan allowed them to remain free on their own recognizance, but did impose a bail warning, and further ordered that they not host any parties attended by anyone who is underage. The couple will return to court on June 14 for a pre-trial hearing.

Police responded to a party at the couple's home on Friday night, April 23, where about 40 teenagers were present, many of whom were drinking alcohol. The couple was arrested, while the teenagers were released to the custody of their parents.
