Police Investigate Discovery Of Body In Gloucester

Gloucester and State Police detectives are investigating the death of an unidentified woman found floating in the water off of Gloucester late this morning.

There were no visible signs of trauma to the body. An autopsy is expected to be conducted tomorrow at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston.

Gloucester Police received a call from a woman working at the Beauport Museum at 11:05 this morning, who reported seeing the body floating off Eastern Point. A short time later the Coast Guard retrieved the body. The deceased was clad in blue pants, a purple shirt and yellow sweatshirt. She had a tattoo on her lower back, a bellybutton piercing and designer nails.

Although it did not appear she had been in the ocean for a long time, no firm age could be ascertained. She is described as being very thin with blonde hair, and could have been anywhere between her 30's and her 50's.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Gloucester Police at 978-283-1212.
