Danvers Man Held Without Bail
Stephen John Anastasi, 24, was arraigned in Salem District Court today for the murder of his father John, 60, both of 2 Auburn Street, Danvers. Judge Michael C. Lauranzano ordered Anastasi held without bail.
On Saturday, November 12 Danvers police received a 911 call at 10:24 a.m. from a neighbor of the men, and when they responded found John Anastasi dead at the scene.
Assistant District Attorney A.J. Camelio told the court that Stephen Anastasi initially told police that aliens had killed his father. Eventually, the defendant indicated that he had struck his father in the head with a hammer and then left the house to purchase heroin. Later, when the defendant returned, he heard his father making noises so he stabbed him in the neck to “end his misery.”
ADA Camelio added that there was evidence in the home that corroborated the defendant’s statement. He also stated that the Danvers Police had responded to the Auburn Street home on numerous occasions in the past and on one such occasion the defendant pulled a knife on three Danvers Police officers.
The defendant is represented by Attorney John Morris. He will return to court on December 14, 2011 for a probable cause hearing. Mr. Anastasi is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
