Former Jail Employee Indicted For Allegedly Having Sex With Imate

An Essex County Grand Jury today indicted Patricia Papa, 40, a former Essex County Correctional Facility employee, on a charge of sexual relations with an inmate by an officer or other employee of a penal or correctional institution. She will be arraigned in Salem Superior Court within the next few weeks.

The conduct is alleged to have occurred with the male inmate on diverse dates between March 1, 2011 and March 28, 2011, at the Correctional Alternative Center in Lawrence. She was the re-integration coordinator at that facility.

The maximum sentence for this offense is five years in state prison.

The case will be prosecuted by Essex Assistant District Attorney Melissa Woodard. Papa is represented by Attorney Ted Cranney.
