Lynn Man Shot By Police Expected To Survive

Mathieu Michaud, 25, of 14 Linwood Street, Lynn, was shot early this morning by Lynn police officers, but is expected to survive.

Police received a 911 call at 1:12 this morning from 14 Linwood Street from someone threatening to kill himself. Two officers in one cruiser arrived at the scene at 1:15 a.m. and were confronted in the street by a male who was carrying a butcher knife and two carving knives.

As he approached the vehicle on the driver's side, both officers exited the vehicle on the passenger side.

The officers identified themselves numerous times, ordered him to drop the knives, but he did not comply. They then saw that he had what appeared to be a gun and ordered him to drop it, but he did not. A weapon was recovered at the scene.

Michaud was shot one time. He was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where he underwent surgery.

The incident is under investigation by State Police detectives assigned to the Office of Essex District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett.

The officers are on paid administrative leave while the investigation takes place.
