Suspended State Police Captain Arraigned

Suspended State Police Captain Thomas McCarthy, 47, of Stoneham, was arraigned this morning in Lynn District Court on a charge of failing to stop for a police officer and on a marked lanes violation.

Judge Albert Conlon released McCarthy on personal recognizance and continued his case until January 19, 2012, for a pre-trial hearing.

McCarthy also has been cited for operating under the influence of liquor and for negligent operation of a motor vehicle.  A clerk’s hearing is scheduled for January 19, 2012, to determine whether a complaint will issue on those charges.

McCarthy tried to plead guilty today on the original charge of failing to stop for a police officer and the marked lanes violation, but Essex Assistant District Attorney Susan Dolhun objected, citing the pending clerk’s hearing.

McCarthy is represented by Attorney Daniel O’Malley of Quincy.
