DA Blodgett Names Lawrence Native to Head Victim Services Unit
District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett today announced at his annual Victims’ Rights Month breakfast that Essex Assistant District Attorney Maureen Wilson Leal will take over as Acting Director of Victim Witness Services on April 22. Current Acting Director Fay Ciaramitaro is retiring after 26 years of service.
“Maureen’s passion for justice and extensive knowledge of the criminal justice system will be a tremendous asset to the Victim Witness Unit and ultimately to the victims we serve,” District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said. “At the end of the day, our work in the courtroom is about seeking justice for victims. Maureen has devoted herself to that pursuit on behalf of widows, abused children, domestic violence victims and countless others.”
Wilson Leal was hired as a Juvenile Justice Coordinator in 1998 while she attended New England Law School. After passing the bar, she was assigned to Lawrence District Court. In 2005, she was promoted to the Superior Court trial team.
Wilson Leal was raised in Lawrence and is a graduate of Presentation of Mary Academy in Methuen. She earned her Bachelor degree at Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts.
