Lawrence Man Arraigned in Fatal New Year's Eve Crash

Mikhael Sarkis, (DOB 6/10/1962), of 6 Hofmann Avenue in Lawrence, was arraigned today on felony motor vehicle homicide, 2 counts of operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury, and other civil infractions at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.  Judge Paul M. Yee, Jr. ordered him held on $100,000 cash bail.  If Sarkis posts bail, Judge Yee ordered him not to drive, remain drug and alcohol free, submit to random drug and alcohol screens, and remain confined to his home with an electronic monitor and a sobrieter.

On December 31st at approximately 11:20 pm, Sarkis allegedly drove his Lincoln Town Car northbound in the southbound lane of Route 1 in Salisbury, when it crashed into a Mercury Grand Marquis   A passenger in his car, Donna Bergeron, 41, of 3 Lewis Lane, East Hampstead, NH, was transported to Anna Jacques Hospital where she was pronounced dead.  Another passenger in his car, Clifford Pollard, 62, of Salisbury, and Corey Burgess, 20, of Salisbury, the driver of the Mercury Grand Marquis, were taken to Anna Jacques Hospital with serious injuries.  Sarkis was also transported to Anna Jacques Hospital and then to Beth Israel Hospital with serious injuries.

Mr. Sarkis is represented by Attorney Kevin Foley and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.  He must appear in court on January 30, 2013 for a pre-trial hearing.
