A 57-year old Lawrence man was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing in connection with a stabbing last night at his estranged wife’s residence. The victim, a 47-year old Lawrence man, is in critical condition at a Boston hospital.
Jose Picart, 233 Prospect Street, Lawrence was arraigned today in Lawrence District Court on Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and Attempted Murder charges.
Essex Assistant District Attorney Lindsay Nasson requested that his bail in an open case be revoked. In that case, the defendant is charged with assaulting his estranged wife and was released on the condition that he stay away and have no contact with her. ADA Nasson alleged that he violated that condition last night when he went to his estranged wife’s residence at 63 Myrtle Street and attempted to murder a man that was with her by stabbing him with a screwdriver.
Judge Mark Sullivan granted the Commonwealth’s request to revoke the bail in the open case for 90 days and ordered the defendant held pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for August 22, 2014.
The defendant is represented by Attorney Steven Van Dyke and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
