Swampscott Woman Arraigned on Assault to Murder Charges

Kimberly Ann English, 49, Swampscott, was arraigned in Lynn District Court today on charges of armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of personal injury, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, 209A violation, and speeding.  Judge James Wexler ordered her held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for September 17, 2013.

Essex Assistant District Attorney Erin Bellavia stated that at 7:24 pm on September 10, 2013 Swampscott Police responded to a report of a hit and run collision involving a pedestrian on Magnolia Road, where they found Anna Champagne suffering from injuries.  Through their investigation they learned that the defendant had made statements to her 8-year-old child that she hoped “Anna dies.” Champagne is dating the defendant’s ex-husband, Carl Schroder.  Schroder has an active restraining order against the defendant on behalf of his children.  A Massachusetts State Police Collision and Accident Reconstruction expert examined the defendant’s car and found that the damage was consistent with striking a person or soft object.

These charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
