Teen Arraigned for Felony Murder
Jahleel Sanders Williams, 17, was arraigned today in Lynn District Court for felony murder and attempt to commit a crime, in connection with the April 16th shooting death of Amoy Blake. Judge Cathleen Campbell ordered him held without bail and a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.
Essex Assistant District Attorney Kate MacDougall stated that Mr. Blake, who was accompanied by the defendant, allegedly put a gun to a 20-year-old Lynn man’s head during an attempted armed robbery. The man then shot Mr. Blake with his own legally licensed weapon and the defendant fled. The man called 911 for an ambulance which transported Mr. Blake to Union Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The defendant is charged with felony murder which means as a participant in the alleged armed robbery, he is criminally liable for any deaths that occurred while committing that felony. Also, Massachusetts General Law chapter 119, Section 74, requires that anyone who is 14 or over and is charged with murder must be tried as an adult.
This matter remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Essex District Attorney's Office and the Lynn Police.
The defendant is represented by Attorney Edward Hayden and is presumed innocent until proven guilty. His next court date is May 19, 2014 for a probable cause hearing.
