Woman Who Allegedly Bit Part of Salem Officer's Ear Off Found To Be A Danger, Held Without Bail

Emma Wiley, 19, of 32 Maple Street, Marblehead, pleaded not guilty today in Salem District Court to mayhem, assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer, threatening to commit a crime, disorderly conduct and having a false identification.

Wiley allegedly bit off a piece of Salem Patrolwoman Jessica Rondinelli’s right ear while police were trying to place her in a cruiser following a disturbance outside a Salem restaurant early Sunday morning.  Essex Assistant District Attorney Megan MacKenzie told the court that doctors at Salem Hospital were unable to re-attach the victim’s ear.

Judge Allan Swan found Wiley to be a danger and ordered her held without bail.  She is scheduled to return to court on August 30 for a probable cause hearing.

Wiley is represented by Attorney Mark Barry.

The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
