Anyone who has made his way into the correctional system is in need of some form of specialized care and training, which will give him the tools necessary to function as a productive participant in society once released. The treatment and educational programs offered at the Essex County Sheriff's Department are extensive. Some teach inmates how to overcome their abuse of drugs and alcohol, while others teach alternatives to violence and anger management. There are also vocational education programs, including ESL, GED, Title I and native language literacy classes. These treatment and educational programs are carefully designed to emphasize the after-care element within each program, so each offender is assured of getting the appropriate amount of help needed.
