How to Reach the GIC

We are dedicated to serving our members as quickly and efficiently as possible. Review the information below to help you decide the best way for you to contact us, or conveniently contact us online. We are here to help you and want to make sure you reach the right place at the right time.

The GIC is open from 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Have your GIC ID Number (usually your Social Security Number), paper and pen or pencil handy. Reach the appropriate department by pressing the following extensions:

1 - General benefit information, including health, life, Long Term Disability, dental/vision, and COBRA
2 - GIC Coordinator assistance and employee eligibility questions
3 - Billing and payments
4 - Life insurance claims
5 - Students, handicapped dependents, and medical leaves of absence
6 - Retirement and Medicare questions

Walk-In

The GIC is open from 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for walk-in assistance. The GIC is located at 19 Staniford Street on the fourth floor in the Charles F. Hurley building, adjacent to the Old West End Church at the corner of Staniford and Cambridge Streets.


Public Transporation

The closest MBTA station is the Blue Line's Bowdoin station. The GIC is also within a few blocks of the Green Line's Government Center station, the Red Line's Charles Street station, and the Orange Line's North station.

From the South: Follow Rte. I 93 North toward Boston
Take Exit 23 toward Government Center (0.3 miles)
Take the North End ramp toward Charlestown (<0.1 miles)
Turn left onto Cross Street (<0.1 miles)
Turn left onto Hanover Street (0.1 miles)
Turn right onto Congress Street (0.1 miles)
Turn slight left onto New Chardon Street (0.2 miles)
Turn right onto Cambridge Street (<0.1 miles)
Turn right onto Staniford Street (Building on left <0.1 miles)

From the North:
I-93 S toward Boston
Take the Route 28 / RT-3 N exit- Exit 26- toward Storrow Drive / North Station (1.5 miles)
Keep right at the fork in the ramp (<0.1 miles)
Turn right onto Nashua Street (0.2 miles)
Turn left onto Lomasney Way (0.1 miles)
Turn slight right onto Staniford Street (Building 0.1 miles on left)

From the West:
Take Mass Pike East toward Boston
Take Exit 18 on the left toward Cambridge / Somerville
Merge onto Cambridge Street (<0.1 miles)
Cambridge Street becomes River Street/River Street Bridge (<0.1 miles)
Turn right onto Memorial Drive / US-3 / MA-2 (0.4 miles)
Keep left at the fork to go on MA-3 S / Memorial Drive (1.6 miles)
Turn slight left to take the ramp toward Government Center / Downtown Boston (0.2 miles)
Turn right onto MA-3 S / Main Street - Continue to follow MA-3 S. (0.4 miles)
Turn slight left onto Cambridge Street (0.3 miles)
Turn left onto Staniford Street (Building<0.1 miles on left)


Parking

  • Longfellow Towers Garage at Staniford Street (immediately across the street)
  • Charles River Plaza Garage on Cambridge Street
