Governor Patrick Nominates Mass Parole Board Chair To Eastern Hampshire District Court

BOSTON- Thursday, July 11, 2008 - Governor Patrick announced today that he has nominated Maureen E. Walsh, Chair of the Massachusetts Parole Board, to serve as Associate Justice of the Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown. Walsh, a Deerfield resident, is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and the Western New England College School of Law.

"Maureen E. Walsh has resolved exceptionally difficult cases at the Parole Board and she has done so with care, skill, balance and an open mind," said Governor Patrick. "She will bring all that and more to the work of the District Court of Hampshire County."

Walsh recently served as President of the Hampshire County Bar Association and as Co-Chair of the Governor's Commission on Criminal Justice Reform. She was elected in 2006 to represent Massachusetts and nine other states on the Interstate Commission for Adult Offender Supervision. Before joining the Parole Board in 1998, she worked for four years as an Assistant District Attorney in the Northwest District Attorney's Office and clerked for three years for Judge Michael A. Ponsor of the United States District Court.

Walsh, 41, has received the Massachusetts Office of Victim Assistance Award for Law Enforcement, the Massachusetts Sheriffs Association Clifford Marshall Award, and the Women in Criminal Justice Executive Committee Award in 2005. She is nominated to succeed the late Honorable Edwin P. Dunphy.
