A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Charles D. Baker

Whereas According to the Department of Children and Families, there are approximately 7,500 children currently living with foster families; and

Whereas Foster parents open their hearts and homes to children in need by providing a stable, healing environment until these children can reunite successfully with their birth families or find a permanent homes with an adoptive family  or guardianship family; and

Whereas Foster parents soothe fussy babies, tie shoes, read books, cheer on little league players, help fill out after-school job applications and support countless childhood endeavors while providing love, hope, guidance, and the opportunity for a better future; and

Whereas Foster parents tirelessly advocate for children in care as part of a team of social workers, physicians, teachers, counselors, and other professionals to ensure that the children’s physical and emotional needs are addressed; and

Whereas Foster parents often play an important role in teaching new and prospective foster and adoptive families valuable parenting techniques and related life skills; and

Whereas It is appropriate for all Massachusetts citizens to recognize the outstanding commitment, selflessness and service provided by dedicated foster parents to the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable children,

Now, Therefore, I, Charles D. Baker, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim the month of May, 2017, to be,

FOSTER CARE MONTH

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this First day of May, in the year two thousand and seventeen, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and forty-first.
