A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas The rates of childhood obesity throughout the country are rising at alarming rates; and

Whereas Due to the rise in childhood obesity, today’s generation of children could be the first to live shorter lives than their parents; and

Whereas Conditions not usually seen until adulthood such as heart disease, diabetes, elevated cholesterol and high blood pressure are becoming more prevalent in children ; and

Whereas Nutritious diets and physical activity are an important component to living healthy lifestyles and reducing disease; and

Whereas Through public awareness, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts seeks to minimize the devastating effects of obesity among all Massachusetts citizens by encouraging in healthy behaviors such as exercising and cooking healthy meals,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim October 6th, 2012 to be,


And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twenty-fifth day of September, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-sixth.
