A Proclamation 
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas Families are the core of America and play an important role in the development of children, laying the foundation for values and citizenship; and

Whereas As their children’s first and most important teachers, parents can foster a lifelong love of learning; and

Whereas Dinner time is an excellent way for families to engage in conversation, share stories and renew meaningful bonds; and

Whereas Frequent family dining has been found to be associated with lower rates of teen smoking, drinking, illegal drug use and prescription drug abuse; and

Whereas On Family Day, we emphasize our commitment to supporting families and recognizing the significance of family to our Commonwealth; and

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim September 24th, 2012, to be

Family Day      

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this seventeenth day in July, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-sixth.
