A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick
Whereas Lakes and reservoirs are among the Commonwealth’s most valuable natural resources; and
Whereas Lakes and reservoirs provide drinking water, irrigation, energy, recreation, scenic beauty and habitat for wildlife; and
Whereas These beneficial uses have been of vital importance to Massachusetts’ history, growth and financial health; and
Whereas The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Lakes and Ponds program works with local groups and municipalities to protect, manage and restore these valuable aquatic resources while providing educational materials to the public about various lake issues; and
Whereas Our lakes and reservoirs improve the quality of life for all of the Commonwealth’s residents and their importance should not go unnoticed; and
Whereas The Commonwealth of Massachusetts recognizes the need to protect these lakes and reservoirs for future generations,
Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim July 2012 to be,
Lakes Appreciation Month
And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this nineteenth day of July, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-sixth.
