A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick
Whereas Count Casimir Pulaski, a Polish exile who fought in the American Revolution, is today revered as one of the greatest soldiers of all time; and
Whereas His outstanding military skills and devotion to the ideals of liberty and justice led him to offer his services to the cause of American Independence; and
Whereas Rising to the rank of Brigadier General and Chief of Cavalry, Count Pulaski commanded the valiant “Pulaski Legion” and served this country with distinction and bravery; and
Whereas Immigrant entrepreneurship is vital to the economic growth, wealth and job creation in the Commonwealth; and
Whereas Immigrant entrepreneurs come from all over the world and create business in the Commonwealth that include enterprises from neighborhood storefronts to multi0national corporations; and
Whereas The Massachusetts New Americans Agenda and the Massachusetts Immigration and Refugee Advocacy Coalition’s (MIRA) New American’s Integration Institute call for recognizing and promoting the economic contributions of immigrant-owned businesses, workers, and consumers throughout the Commonwealth; and
Whereas Revolutionary ideas start here. For almost four hundred years, Massachusetts’ social, cultural, technological, scientific, manufacturing, and design entrepreneurs advance our economic prosperity and quality of life; and
Whereas Entrepreneurial ingenuity is the lifeblood of the Commonwealth’s innovation economy. Innovation is Massachusetts’ edge, our fundamental competitive advantage, and our immigrant entrepreneurs are changing the state, nation and world for the better;
Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim October 14th – November 14th, 2011, to be
Immigrant Entrepreneurship Month
And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twelfth day of October, in the year two thousand and eleven, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-fifth.
