A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick
Whereas Chronic obstructive lung diseases, including chronic bronchitis, asthma, and emphysema, afflict an estimated 35 million Americans; and
Whereas Chronic lung diseases are responsible for the deaths of 400,000 Americans annually; and
Whereas A healthy respiratory system is essential to overall health, and regular checkups, avoiding exposure to pollutants, and not smoking are all effective ways of avoiding lung damage; and
Whereas An increased awareness of lung health issues encourages further respiratory therapy education and research; and
Whereas Respiratory care practitioners contribute to the quality of life and delivery of health care in the Commonwealth,
Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim October 23rd- 29th, 2011, to be
Respiratory Care Week
And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
