A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick
Whereas The study of geography helps students recognize the connection between the environment and people by tying together diverse sciences like geology, biology, and climatology with economics, history and politics; and
Whereas Geographic literacy is an essential part of a 21st century education; and
Whereas This year’s theme, The Adventure in Your Community, focuses on the geographic resources available in the Commonwealth and will help bring a better understanding of geography to classrooms in the state; and
Whereas Throughout the week, teachers, students and communities across the Bay State will gain knowledge about cultures of the world, environments and contemporary issues,
Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim November 13th – 19st, 2011, to be
Geography Awareness Week
And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twenty-fifth day of October, in the year two thousand and eleven, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-fifth.
