A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas Nurse practitioners order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions, and prescribe medications and other treatments; and

Whereas There are more than 6,000 licensed nurse practitioners in the Commonwealth and 148,000 licensed in the United States; and  

Whereas In addition to clinical services, nurse practitioners focus on health promotion, disease prevention, health education and counseling, as well as guiding patients to make smarter health and lifestyle choices; and

Whereas  Nurse practitioners provide healthcare to people of all ages in diverse healthcare settings such as private office practice, hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools, state and local health departments, managed care facilities, and retail-based clinics; and

Whereas It is appropriate that all residents recognize the contributions nurse practitioners make to the health and well-being of the people in the communities they serve; and

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim November 13th - 19th, 2011,  to be

Nurse Practitioners Week

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.ency
