A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick
Whereas Veterans of the United States Armed Forces have served as our nation’s first line of defense during times of conflict, protecting democracy and demonstrating outstanding courage and patriotism; and
Whereas During their period of service, these men and women experienced prolonged separation from their families and friends, and many sustained debilitating injuries while in combat, requiring long-term hospitalization; and
Whereas Our veterans deserve compassion and companionship while they are hospitalized, as well as recognition and gratitude for their dedicated service to the United States and the cause of democracy; and
Whereas It is appropriate for all Massachusetts citizens to recognize the sacrifices made by hospitalized veterans and express appreciation for their dedicated service to preserve our precious freedoms,
Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim February 12th – 18th, 2012, to be
Salute to Veteran Patients Week
And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this eleventh day of January, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-fifth.
