 A Proclamation

His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas On October 20th, 2010, the General Assembly of the United Nations unanimously adopted the resolution designating the first week of February as UN World Interfaith Harmony Week; and

Whereas The world’s religions, convictions and beliefs call for embracing universal ideals in service to peace; and

Whereas UN World Interfaith Harmony Week is an international opportunity to focus world attention on efforts affirming that dialogue, respect, understanding and cooperation among peoples of all cultures, faiths traditions and belief systems are fundamental elements of a culture of peace; and

Whereas UN World Interfaith Harmony Week encourages all peoples across the Commonwealth to celebrate interfaith harmony and goodwill each according to their own traditions or convictions,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim February 1st-7th, 2012 to be

UN World Interfaith Harmony Week

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this second day of February, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-fifth.
