A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas There is a need for continuing nutrition education and a wide-scale effort to enhance good eating practices; and

Whereas Massachusetts seeks improve  our residents’ quality of life by emphasizing the importance of a healthy lifestyle which includes a healthy and balanced diet; and

Whereas The type, quality and amount of food consumed each day plays a vital role in a person’s  overall health and wellness; and

Whereas The Commonwealth is combating obesity and obesity related diseases through programs such as Mass in Motion by educating our residents on healthy eating, expanding access to farmers markets, increasing community gardening, and encouraging more physical activity; and

Whereas It all citizens are encouraged to take initiative in caring about their nutrition and the nutrition of others in the hope of achieving optimum health,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim March 2012,  to be

Nutrition Month

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this second day of March, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-fifth.
