A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick
Whereas Military wives throughout our Commonwealth and our nation embody the principles and ideals on which this country was founded and seek to preserve our freedom, liberty, and democracy; and
Whereas Gold Star Wives of America, Inc. represents the spouses and families of the members and veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States who have died on active duty or as a result of a service-connected disability and provide services and support to the spouses of fallen members; and
Whereas The primary mission of Gold Star Wives of America is to provide support friendship and a community to the spouses of the fallen members and veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States; and
Whereas On this day Massachusetts honors the sacrifices made by the spouses and families of the fallen members of the Armed Forces of the United States,
Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim April 5th, 2012, to be
Gold Star Wives Day
And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twenty-ninth day of March, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-fifth.
