A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas Cancer registrars are h ealthcare professionals and data management experts that retain complete summaries of diagnosis, treatment, and patient history for all cancer patients in the United States; and

Whereas Cancer registrars help health care professionals better meet the needs of patients with cancer by collecting and maintaining data on persons diagnosed with this devastating disease; and

Whereas Data collected by cancer registrars is used by physicians to monitor treatment and continuing care of patients and by epidemiologists to track the cancer activity throughout  Massachusetts and the nation; and

Whereas National Cancer Registrars Week recognizes the contributions that professional cancer registrars make to the field of allied health; and

Whereas Cancer registrars throughout Massachusetts are committed to promoting the latest medical advances in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer; and

Whereas Through public awareness, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts seeks to celebrate the meaningful   
contributions cancer registrars make to the medical field and their commitment to promoting the health       
and wellbeing of the residents of our Commonwealth,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim April 9th-14th, 2012, to be,

Cancer Registrar's Week

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twelfth day of March, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-fifth.
