Commonwealth of Massachusetts
A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick
Whereas Having a job can be a valuable part of a teenager’s learning and development; and
Whereas Young Bay Staters should have access to job opportunities that are in a safe and healthy environment; and
Whereas According to the Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety, approximately 1,000 teens visit the emergency room for work related injuries every year; and
Whereas This year, many teens will take summer jobs unaware of laws designed to protect them from potential on-the-job hazards; and
Whereas Through public awareness the Commonwealth of Massachusetts seeks to minimize the number of job related injuries among all Massachusetts teenagers,
Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim May 2012, to be,
Young Worker Safety Month
And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twenty-fourth day of April, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-fifth.
By His Excellency
Deval L. Patrick
Governor of the Commonwealth
William Francis Galvin
Secretary of the Commonwealth
God Save the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
