His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick
Whereas From the majesty of Mount Greylock, to the beauty of the Blue Hills, from the Housatonic River Valley Wildlife Management Area, to the rich and varied wetland habitats of the Hockomock Swamp Wildlife Management Area, from the mighty waves at Horseneck Beach to the serene atmosphere of the Halibut Point, Massachusetts has a proud legacy of parks, trails, beaches, campgrounds and forests throughout the Commonwealth; and
Whereas A clean and sustainable environment, maintained by protecting these natural resources, contributes to our quality of life and helps sustain and restore our land’s native biodiversity; and
Whereas Biking, swimming, hiking, wildlife watching, hunting, fishing, and other forms of outdoor recreation promotes fitness and a healthy lifestyle; and
Whereas As June marks the beginning of the summer recreation and vacation season, it is important that all citizens are reminded of our shared responsibility to protect, enhance and utilize, responsibly and sustainably, the natural resources of the Commonwealth for present and future generations,
Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim June 2012, to be,
Great Outdoors Month
And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
