A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas Bishop Nellie C. Yarborough served Mt. Calvary Church of America as Bishop for more than fifty years, becoming the senior pastor in 1972; and

Whereas Under her leadership, the Mt. Calvary Church of America pioneered serving the hungry and caring for the homeless through the food pantry, clothing ministry and community supper ministry; and

Whereas Bishop Yarborough was a pillar in her community of Dorchester, serving as a founding member and principal of the Dr. Brumfield Johnson Christian Academy while continuing to serve as an example of educational attainment as she pursued her doctorate in education until her passing; and

Whereas Today marks the passing and celebration of Bishop Yarborough's life and commitment to her faith, ministry, community and family and friends around here,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim December 14, 2012 to be,


And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
