Commonwealth of Massachusetts
A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas Children are our nation’s greatest resource, requiring our utmost protection and care; and

Whereas The future of our Nation is in the hands of our children, the effects of the loving support, the nurturing, and the instruction we give them now will be felt and magnified in generations to come; and

Whereas Throughout its rich history, Massachusetts has been a leader in promoting quality education and family involvement in children's safety; and

Whereas Studies confirm that proactive responses are most effective for avoiding would-be abductors and violence to our children; and

Whereas Children provided with safety education exhibit increased self-confidence and good citizenship, and are fully prepared academically to meet the challenges of today's society; and

Whereas It is appropriate that all citizens honor and commend child safety advocates and instructors for their contributions to the health, safety and well-being of our youth and the future of the Commonwealth,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim May 2012,  to be

Massachusetts Missing
Children Month

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twenty-second day of May, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-fifth.

By His Excellency
Deval L. Patrick
Governor of the Commonwealth

William Francis Galvin
Secretary of the Commonwealth
