Commonwealth of Massachusetts
A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas Hundreds of refugee children resettle in the Commonwealth every year; and

Whereas Refugee children contribute to the Commonwealth’s rich diversity and bring great enthusiasm for the journey forward in their education and new lives in the United States; and

Whereas Refugee children are the future of both their families and the fabric of the Commonwealth; and

Whereas Refugee parents and their children are examples of hope and inspiration, not only to their fellow Americans, but also to the new groups of people who are joining the American family; and

Whereas Public schools in the Commonwealth are often the first place where refugee children start their new lives to achieve their American Dreams; and

Whereas Today we celebrate our vibrant refugee community with a special tribute to educators who have shown exceptional commitment to supporting refugee children to succeed in school and integrate into their new community,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim June 20th, 2012, to be,

Massachusetts Refugee Day

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this eleventh day of June, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-fifth.

By His Excellency
