A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas Massachusetts apple growers help support our local, state and national economies, enhance the quality of living for our citizenry, and contribute to the beautification of the Commonwealth; and

Whereas More than 369 apple growers in the Commonwealth generate over $21.69 million sales annually for the Massachusetts economy; and

Whereas Apple growers and producers of agriculture commodities in the Commonwealth participate in a wide variety of conservation efforts and renewable energy projects that advance agricultural research and education and help protect the environment; and

Whereas Apple orchards preserve open spaces and provide families with opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and engage in treasured activities such as apple-picking; and

Whereas It is appropriate to recognize the contributions that our apple and fruits growers make by consistently meeting the demands of consumers by providing a wide variety of fresh, locally produced, environmentally safe, and high-quality food for our residents,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim September 2012 to be,


And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
