A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick
Whereas Inventors are essential for the vitality and competitiveness of the Commonwealth’s innovation economy; and
Whereas Inventors enhance the stature of Massachusetts but supporting science and engineering development in the Commonwealth; and
Whereas Massachusetts has the highest innovation density in the United States based on issued patents, and the highest number of registered patent professionals per capita; and
Whereas Massachusetts has among the highest levels of diversity of industry and occupational clusters in science and engineering in the United States, which leads to enhanced employment and employee retention for citizens of the Commonwealth; and
Whereas Massachusetts has among the highest levels of investments funding privately held companies in science and engineering in the United States and among the highest levels of awarded Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants in the United States; and
Whereas Massachusetts has the highest rate of students graduating with undergraduate and advanced degrees in science and engineering in the United States; and
Whereas On this day we ask all residents of the Commonwealth to recognize the continued contributions of inventors for having a positive impact on the economy and well-being of the Commonwealth,
Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim September 20th, 2012 to be,
MASSACHUSETTS INVENTORS DAY
And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this eighteenth day of September, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-sixth.
