A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas Mental disorders and substance abuse disorders are serious health problems affecting thousands of individuals and their families throughout the Commonwealth and nation; and

Whereas Addictions and mental disorders are chronic but treatable diseases and recovery is possible through effective treatment and recovery programs and support groups; and

Whereas It is also important that programs and services are available for their children and families, providing support in this most difficult time; and

Whereas It is crucial that all Bay State residents recognize the importance of treatment programs and their efforts to aid individuals suffering from alcoholism, drug addiction, and mental disorders and the vital role of the recovering person in our communities,   

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim September 2012 to be,


And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this thirteenth day of August, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-sixth.
