A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas There are approximately 13.7 million American cancer survivors; and

Whereas A cancer survivor is defined as anyone living with a history of cancer, from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of their life; and

Whereas On this day we celebrate the gift of life and the  joy, hope, camaraderie, faith, and the American tradition of overcoming adversity that cancer survivors embody; and

Whereas It is appropriate to recognize the strength and resilience of cancer survivors living in the Commonwealth as well as the medical professionals, friends, and family who helped them in their recovery

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim June 5, 2013 to be,

Cancer Survivor's Day

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this second day of February, in the year two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-fifth.
