Commonwealth of Massachusetts
A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas The issue of peace embraces the deepest hopes of all people and remains humanity’s guiding inspiration; and

Whereas In 1981, the United Nations proclaimed International Day of Peace, “devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nature and people”; and

Whereas The United Nations, in 2001, set an observance date for the International Day of Peace, including a call for a day of global ceasefire and non-violence. All nations and people are invite to honor a cessation of hostilities for the duration of the day; and

Whereas Global crises impel all citizens to work toward converting humanity’s noblest aspirations for world peace into a practical reality for future generations,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim September 21st, 2013, to be,

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this tenth day of September, in the year two thousand and thirteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-seventh.

Deval L. Patrick
