Commonwealth of Massachusetts
A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas The 2013 National Primary Care Week was established by the American Medical Student Association in partnership with Primary Care Progress, a network of primary care clinicians, innovators, educators, learners and advocates, to highlight the indispensable role of primary care in our health care system; and

Whereas Studies have shown that health care systems with a foundation of strong primary care offer the most coordinated, cost-effective and high quality health care; and

Whereas Massachusetts health care reform has placed a significant focus on the need for a robust system of primary care; and

Whereas There is a critical need to train, recruit, retain and sustain primary care clinicians as an essential part of the Massachusetts workforce,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim October 7th-11th, 2013 to be,

Primary Care Week

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twenty-fifth day of September, in the year two thousand and thirteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and thirty-seventh.

By His Excellency

Deval L. Patrick
Governor of the Commonwealth

William Francis Galvin
Secretary of the Commonwealth
