A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick


Whereas Education support professionals play an important role in our public school system and they include school secretaries, custodians, bus drivers, teacher aides, food service personnel, paraprofessional laboratory technicians, telephone operators, medical records personnel, bookkeepers, accountants, mail room clerks, computer programmers, library and reference assistants, audio-visual technicians, and others; and

Whereas Education support professionals make up more than 40 percent of the total K-12 education workforce; and

Whereas Education Support Professionals Day was first celebrated in 1987 after the National Education Association's (NEA's) Representative Assembly called for the creation of a way to honor contributions of school support staff; and

Whereas Education support professionals work tirelessly to serve our children and communities with care and professionalism,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim November 20th, 2013, to be,


And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
