A Proclamation
His Excellency Governor Deval L. Patrick

Whereas 4P-/Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome is a rare chromosomal disorder caused by a genetic error or a shortening on chromosome four; and

Whereas Children with 4p- syndrome are usually born with low birth weight and develop slowly, both cognitively and physically, compared to their same-age peers, and can experience additional medical complications while; and

Whereas It is estimated that approximately 1,000 individuals in the United States have 4p- syndrome, though it is thought that many cases remain undiagnosed; and

Whereas The Commonwealth seeks to raise awareness of 4P-/Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome in order to help improve early diagnosis and facilitate a greater understanding across Massachusetts,

Now, Therefore, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim April 16th, 2014, to be,

4P-/WOLF HIRSCHHORN SYNDROME
AWARENESS DAY

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
